The Underground Railroad has been related to this location because Harriet Tubman worked for a time at a Cape Island hotel. Mount Zion Cemetery is said to feature graves of those involved in the Underground Railroad.
In Cape May Point State Park, several nature trails lead visitors to ponds, coastal dunes, marsh, and woodland areas where wildlife can be seen. The park’s ever-changing climate makes it an excellent place to observe fall bird migration. Another fantastic spot for bird watching is Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area.
The 1035-acre site has a distinct mix of natural and man-made features. The area offers a unique blend of various habitats, including forest, dune, and scrub-shrub.
